Day 4: Today was a spectacular day! Everything just seemed to come together very nicely. The tie-dye shirts came out great. Bridges that were designed on our iPads two days ago using the "simplephysics" App were made in "real-life" today using straws, tape and hot glue. Most were able to hold up an entire coffee can of nuts and bolts. Additionally, the hard work that the campers put in yesterday to design and perfect their remote control paper drone planes paid off. They flew amazingly well with the bluetooth controlled engines. Just about 100% of the kids got it to fly with some degree of control. I could not have expected better results. We were also able to run the 94fifty bluetooth sensor basketball system where shooting accuracy and dribbling speed and power can be tested and recorded on smartphones and iPads. This is yet another excellent example of how technology is changing all of our lives and the campers love it. Our two best dribblers were able to dribble the ball nearly 120 times in just twenty seconds. Amazing!!! The rest of the pictures that tell the story of the day are below. Enjoy! And stay tuned for the end of summer raffle for the free iPad....everyone from this camp week is included in the drawing.
Day 3:
Despite the weather we were able to stay quite active and even got outside a bunch today. We started off with a homemade science camp word search race (made by Meg) and then jumped right into a series of activities with the Van De Graff Generator, the bed of nails and the bladder bags. After a short break down the cafeteria we tackled the creation of lava lamps which you can see in many of the pictures below glowing in bright colors. We had no time to waste as today was a must day for the first three phases of the tie-dye camp shirts. Before lunch we had the shirts signed, arranged, colored and zipped up into lock-tight bags for overnight setting. Tomorrow we will rinse and dry them and be able to put them on for the ultimate camp picture! After watching our 3rd 20 minute segment of Big Hero 6, we flew back to the room and began our long awaited paper drone plane projects. Most campers were able to successfully down load the QR reader APP on their phones and/ or iPads, which allowed them to watch an instructional video on how to make the Invader Model Paper Plane. These planes came out exceedingly well made as evidenced by how well they flew in the back field of the school. After successfully making these prototypes we will build final crafts tomorrow and begin to fly them outside. Fingers crossed!
See you in the morning. Come ready to work, laugh and explore!

Day 2: Today was a very busy day. We started out with an experiment where soluble tablets in the three primary colors were dissolved in water. Campers were challenged to mix the 3 colors in different ratios to make as many new colors as they could. We were amazed as the winning group made over 70 new colors and documented them all on their iPad with pictures. After break we began the construction of our solar race cars. These were a challenge to build with lots of intricate parts. We are happy to say that all ten groups got them built, but making the fine tune adjustments to get them to work smoothly required a "stick to it" mentality. Several groups got to the point where they could race down a 6' track for time!
After this, the music tubes came out where the sounds and whistle tones were only limited by the amount of energy supplied by the campers. These were a lot of fun and provided a great calorie burn before heading to lunch. Movie time came and we watched another 20-minute segment of our movie of the week "Big Hero 6". With our food fully digested, we then attacked the long awaited iPad Simple Physics train building exercise. This went off wonderfully and the campers were amazing at designing and building bridges that were both strong and low in cost. The winning bridge was built by our "Sparkling Chimps" group at a cost of 89,000 (first models were as high as 189,000). A picture of the winning bridge is in the gallery below. We are very proud of the effort that everyone put into this project.
We have a super busy day tomorrow with tie-dye shirts, bladder bags, lava lamps, bluetooth controlled paper planes, anti-gravity water cups, etc. etc. Get a good rest tonight!

Science Camp Day 1:
See picture recapping the day below.
A very active day today, although the solar cars had to be put on hold due to the lack of sunshine. We still managed to make our film canister rockets (winning group shot one 21 feet), artificial lungs, and ring clicking bottles. The campers voted to view Big Hero 6 as the "movie of the week' and began a water volume expansion 4 day experiment with animals that expand 600%. Trivia for cricket pops was a big hit....although some opted out for gum prizes instead (not sure why...haha)
Much more action on tap for tomorrow including solar cars, tie-dye phase one, iPad bridges (YES....bring iPads in again), and 2 Liter bottle rockets. Sunshine is on tap so be sure to bring sunblock and fluids.
