2009 science camp...balloon in bottle
As camp director I take great pride and pleasure in how much our camp has grown over the years. Twelve years ago this camp began and ran for just one week with only fifteen kids. Now the camp runs for four full weeks each summer and fills up every time. Our formula for success has been simple.....DO THINGS and HAVE FUN. And that is exactly what we do! Each week we plan a variety of science activities, laboratory exercises, challenges, crafts, games and much much more. We keep active and we keep moving. Everyone participates and everyone gets involved. Many of our campers (up to 80%) are repeat attenders from previous years.
What I do outside of camp...
2005 Massachusetts
Construction Career Day
fieldtrip
I graduated from Whitman-Hanson back in 1982, and after graduating from Bates College and working in the retail industry for a decade, I finally answered my inner call and became a teacher. I have always loved the profession and truly feel it is something I was meant to do. I have been teaching science at Whitman-Hanson since 1994, and have taught courses in biology, astronomy, physics and chemistry. I have a general science certification from the State of Massachusetts and earned my masters degree from Cambridge College in 2001. Another area of educational focus for me is the teaching of an online course as part of the high school's Virtual High School program. We have been running this program since the late 1990's and many aspiring students have been able to take advantage of a great variety of courses available through VHS.
Spare Time?
I am a very active person. I have coached several sports at the high school and youth levels including football, track, and basketball. Staying healthy is important for everyone and I like to do so by running, biking, fishing and playing sports. The picture here is me and my youngest daughter Ari, just after finishing the annual 5 mile Edaville Road Race, in Carver, MA, back in November of 2011.
