So far today was one of the busiest days of the week. We started off with a very nice session of Show and Tell with Delaney and Charlotte. They brought in deer horns and mystery pen ink which were both a lovely addition to the opening of camp.
After a couple of fire filled demonstration with rubbing alcohol and a dollar bill we promptly set out to get our tie-dye shirts rinsed and dried. Too bad I forget to have everyone grab them on the way out. We need a team picture with them tomorrow, so if you brought it home please wear it on Friday.
The rest of the morning was action packed with the addition of two labs. The first is always a kid favorite with the making of slime. Everyone in the camp followed directions exquisitely and the slime came out wonderful. The campers should have brought it home all bagged up today. This lab was followed up with a great challenge….the making of homemade batteries. This was an arduous task which too great patience and perseverance. I am happy to say that 12 of the 24 kids got them to work today and you can see many of the films and pictures showing this on the website. Everyone was sent home with the pennies, zinc and electrolyte felt need to make the batteries. As well they were each given an LED bulb. They can re-do what we did at home anytime you want. You just need a little vinegar and salt to moisten the felt material.
After lunch and the third segment of The Good Dinosaur we ventured on to what I thought would be one of the toughest labs of the week…..the building of the insect robots. To my great surprise some of the youngest campers in attendance got their robot to work first…awesome. Today the goal was to get at least one working robot for each lab bench. Tomorrow morning we will make haste in getting each and every camper one for themselves to take home. Fingers crossed!
Remember to bring in or wear your tie-dye shirt tomorrow and get a good sleep tonight….we have an EXTREMELY busy last day coming up and we need fresh hands, eyes, bodies and brains all day.
